What's Inside
Four courses.
One complete system.
01
Course 01
GPS Navigation
Using OnX in the field. This is where most hunters stop. They mark waypoints but never learn to navigate with intention.
  • Contour lines
  • Topo map mastery
  • The practice from home strategy
  • LiDAR mastery
  • Hybrid map mastery
  • Entry and exit planning
  • How to execute a route with minimal effort
02
Course 02
The E-Scouting System
Full OnX deep dive. This is the Edge Bible, expanded into a complete course. Learn to layer aerial imagery, identify every edge type, mark high-probability zones, and build a hit list on any new piece of ground before you leave home.
  • Layering satellite, topo, and ownership
  • Identifying edge — all 6 types
  • Building a ranked hit list
  • Mature buck bedding examples
  • Hunting strategically around other hunters
03
Course 03
Basic Land Navigation
Batteries die. This is the backup system that becomes the primary system once you build the skill. Map reading, compass use, declination, dead reckoning, and pace count. You'll never be stranded.
  • Compass parts and the three norths
  • Shooting and following a bearing
  • Dead reckoning and pace count
04
Course 04
Advanced Land Navigation
Terrain association, triangulation, low-light navigation, adverse conditions. This is where you stop navigating to waypoints and start reading the ground itself. The skill that separates hunters from operators.
  • Terrain association — reading the ground
  • Triangulation — confirm your position anywhere
  • Low-light and pre-dawn navigation
  • Adverse conditions — rain, snow, fog

You're one dead battery
from being lost.

Most hunters can't navigate without a phone. They rely on OnX to get in and panic when it fails. That's not a gear problem. It's a skill problem.

Every piece of public ground that's actually unhunted requires you to go where other hunters won't. Most hunters won't go there because they don't know how to get back.

The deer are in there. You just need the system to get to them and the confidence to stay.

90%
of hunters stay within a mile of a road or trailhead. The deer aren't there. You already know this.

I navigated some of the most unforgiving terrain on earth for the United States Army. Land navigation wasn't a skill I learned in a classroom. It was a skill I learned for survival.

When I came back and started hunting public land whitetail, I realized hunters had all the right tools and none of the training. OnX is powerful. A compass is simple. Most hunters never learn to use either correctly.

Ghost Country is the system I built from that gap. It's not a GPS tutorial. It's not a compass course. It's the complete navigation stack — from your couch to the backcountry — built specifically for hunters.

FAQ
What is Ghost Country?
A complete land navigation system for hunters. Four courses — e-scouting, GPS navigation, basic land nav, and advanced land nav — built into one system by a U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret. The goal: get you into the ground nobody else is hunting, and get you back out.
Do I need prior navigation experience?
No. Ghost Country starts from the ground up — what maps to buy, how to read a contour line, how to orient a compass. The basic land nav course assumes zero prior experience. The advanced courses build from there. By the end, you can navigate any terrain in any conditions.
Is this just an OnX tutorial?
No. OnX is in there — there's a full e-scouting course and a GPS navigation course built around it. But Ghost Country doesn't stop at apps. Batteries die. Signal disappears. The map and compass courses give you a backup system that works when nothing else does. That's the whole point.
Who is this for?
Any hunter who hunts public land, DIY out-of-state, or any backcountry environment. Public land whitetail hunters. Saddle hunters. Mobile hunters. Western hunters. If you've ever been uncertain about where you are in the woods — this is for you. If you've ever limited your hunt because you weren't confident in your ability to navigate — this is for you.
How is this different from other hunting courses?
No other hunting course combines e-scouting, GPS navigation, map and compass, and advanced land nav into a single system. Most courses teach one piece. Ghost Country teaches the full stack — from your couch to the backcountry — and it's taught by someone who used these skills operationally, not recreationally.
When does Ghost Country launch?
It's in production now. Join the waitlist and you'll be the first to know the exact date and the first to get access when the cart opens.
What is the Edge Bible?
The Edge Bible is a free PDF guide — the entry point to Ghost Country. It covers the 6 types of edge mature public land whitetail use and a 20-minute OnX scouting protocol. If you haven't grabbed it, get it free at waywardridge.com/edge-bible. Ghost Country is the full system the Edge Bible points to.
What is Wayward Ridge?
Wayward Ridge is a veteran-owned ultralight hunting gear company founded by Jake Roberts — a U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret based in Auburn, Indiana. Wayward Ridge makes ultralight saddle hunting accessories including the Wayward Wire bow hanger, Wayward Bridge phone mount, and Micro MOLLE Clips. All products carry a lifetime transferrable warranty.
Is Ghost Country worth it for beginners?
Yes. Ghost Country is built from the ground up — it assumes zero prior navigation experience. The Basic Land Nav course starts with what maps to buy and how to read a contour line. By the end you'll have skills most hunters never develop regardless of experience level.
Will Ghost Country work for western hunters and elk hunters?
Absolutely. Ghost Country was built for any hunter operating in terrain where getting lost is a real consequence — whitetail on public land, DIY elk, mule deer, any backcountry situation. The land navigation skills are terrain-agnostic. The e-scouting and GPS courses apply to OnX Hunt and OnX Backcountry equally.
