Wayward Ridge builds modular chest rigs and ultralight gear for public land saddle hunters. Chest rigs, pocket bow hangers, phone mounts, MOLLE attachment hardware, and land navigation training. Everything is designed and made in the United States and carries a lifetime transferable warranty.

The company was founded by Jake Roberts, a Green Beret who was medically retired from the United States Army. He spent years learning to navigate and operate in terrain carrying only what was necessary, and that standard is the entire product line.

After retiring, the outdoors became the mission. Jake and his wife Megan run Wayward Ridge as a family business out of Indiana. They are the only two people in it.

The flagship product is The Detachment, a modular MOLLE chest rig built on true plate-carrier architecture. Most hunting harnesses are finished products with a layout the brand chose. The Detachment is a platform. The full laser-cut MOLLE front takes any pouches you own, the internal plates and back panel are removable, and you rebuild the layout for every hunt.

That is the philosophy across everything. Most hunters try to solve problems by adding gear, and adding gear is what defeats the point of hunting mobile. Every Wayward Ridge product does exactly one job, weighs as little as it can, makes no noise, and does not require a second piece of hardware to work.

Every product carries a lifetime transferable warranty. If it breaks, we replace it. If you sell it to a hunting buddy, the warranty goes with it.

Review from the saddle

"I'm sitting in the saddle on the Kentucky opening day for deer as I write this. This unit is so light weight and not bulky that if you saddle hunt you definitely need it. Your phone will not fall off while on this!"

A must have

The ability to get up in a tree and easily establish a secure way to hang your bow, gun, or bag is simply priceless.

Awesome piece of gear

"...super durable, holds a ton of weight and takes up hardly any room in your pockets, saddle pouches or your pack. Can not recommend it enough."

So simple and perfect

"The magnet included to secure your phone is strong. I grabbed the bridge shaking it violently and the phone still remained solidly attached. I can have my phone in front of me and at the same time my hands are free when the time comes."

End your search

"Don't let the lightweight fool you... the wayward wire is a tank! Super simple to get on the tree..."

Great Product

"Perfect for hanging sticks and platform on your saddle while you make your way up the tree."

About Us

After retiring from Special Forces, I had a Green Beret mindset without a mission.

My wife and I shortly discovered the outdoors was the best therapy and focus for our family, so we went all in.

My wife, Megan, and I take our daughter to explore the outdoors together and we are the sole owners and workers in Wayward Ridge.

Our business and family values are cut from the same cloth: quality time spent doing quality work to make ourselves and those around us better.
